The ELEKTO card game represents all 16 existing contraceptive methods: subcutaneous implant, tubal canal closure, intrauterine device, injectable, oral pill, vaginal ring, transdermal patch, diaphragm + spermicide, internal condom, calculation and observation, emergency, closure of the vas deferens, hormonal, briefs or testicular ring, external condom, withdrawal.

Game content

The ELEKTO game of 33 cards contains:

- 16 character cards: 1 character for each contraceptive + the anatomical zoom of the corresponding contraceptive

- 16 information sheets: 1 explanatory sheet for each contraceptive. Each sheet contains the main information on the corresponding contraceptive: effectiveness, mechanism of action, reversibility, methods of use, effect on periods or erection/ejaculation, protection or not against STIs, etc.

- 1 definition card containing the technical words used in the sheets, allowing the game to be used by everyone.

The ELEKTO card game responds to the National Sexual Health Strategy by allowing a representation of diversity, a positive approach to bodies and a fight against violence and discrimination.

It makes it possible to approach contraception in its overall context of prevention and education about emotional and sexual life in the broad sense.

The information sheets for each contraceptive contain up-to-date scientific information and are based on the recommendations of the High Authority for Health and the World Health Organization.

The illustrated characters allow easy reference in the explanations.

The ELEKTO card game can be used in any way desired, allowing it to be adapted to the needs of each animation.

Here are some ideas:

- Make all the cards available to the group with the mission of finding the pairs: associate the character with the corresponding technical sheet

- Make only the character cards available to the group and carry out several game sessions during which the group must classify or group the cards according to criteria announced by the person in charge of the animation: hormonal/non-hormonal, reversible/non contraception reversible, classified in order of theoretical, then practical effectiveness, “masculine” and “feminine” (for this category, this allows questions of gender identity and the gender/anatomy difference to be addressed), available on prescription or without prescription, etc.

- Ask the group to take a character card at random and describe what people understand and know about this contraceptive. Then compare it to the corresponding technical sheet.

Whatever exercises are chosen, this makes it possible to work from the group's initial knowledge and to bring out dialogue on stereotypes and representations.

For people who also have the ELEKTO Box available, you can use the 3D copies of the contraceptives in the box with the ELEKTO card game. Then, after the various exercises allowed by the card game, you can put the 3D copies back in the box and make a summary with an overview of the contraceptives using the ELETO box.
